Natural Born Hair Stylist
There’s a lot of talk about finding your passion. The saying “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” is a lengthy journey for most, but it was easy for Rita La Victoire.
At an early age, Rita and her sister fell in love with hair and fashion. Walking the halls of high school, Rita sported the newest styles and cuts and even carried her favourite hair products in her school bag. Keeping up with the latest and greatest meant Rita getting herself a part time job to continue to fund her passion.
Both Rita and her sister went into hairdressing and Rita regularly says she is doing what she loves every single day whether it’s cuts and colour, spending time at a hair show, taking classes and other forms of education to further her skills or doing a consult with a client.
It’s because of this passion, and her love of working with people, that Rita is able to help her clients explore their needs and wishes. Being patient is important to Rita because she knows it’s not easy for clients to always express what they think and though they may love a certain style, if Rita knows it won’t deliver the result the client is after, she explains better options to ensure the end result is the best it can be.
Rita stresses that even long-term clients need this time to express what they’re looking for to avoid getting in a rut. Some hair stylists get in a rut too, but not Rita. Even after over 30 years in the business, she stays up on what’s trending, not just in Vancouver, but across North America, Europe and beyond. In fact, Rita has traveled to Europe a few times and explains that while there she can’t help but stare at the hair styles, visit the salons and drag her husband into shops to check out hair fashion.
Beginning as an apprentice in a high-end downtown salon, Rita gained her stylist’s license before taking a Vidal Sasson program. While this was a number of years ago, Rita has continued to take classes and a wide range of education to stay current and deliver the best results possible to her clients. She added an advanced course to her completed training a few years ago when she took an intensive class taught in Vancouver by one of Vidal Sassoon’s certified instructors who has taught all over the world.
